The Mind and Music of Me

My College Bucket List and Other Ramblings

bucket-listI am not a sorority girl, a political protester, a student body president, a 6th Street scene-ster, or a football fanatic. Actually, I haven’t the slightest idea what it really means to be a “typical college student”, but I’m pretty sure that I’m far from it. I waited a few years after high school before even starting college, which makes me feel like an old hag walking through campus. And I guess I’ve just never been “typical” in general, preferring to march to my own drum, as they say. As I am surviving through my last semester at the University of Texas, however, I have decided to make a list of activities that I want to experience before I leave this chapter in my life behind. A college bucket list.

Calling it a bucket list might be a little over dramatic, but there is something inspiring about the thought of seizing my final semester of college and committing to experiencing new things before I’m released into the great unknown. What better time than college to conquer fear and take risks? None I say. And who wants to look back to any point in their life and ask the regretful ‘what if’? Not one. It is decided. So here we go.

Hey good stuff…keep up the good work! I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks,)

Hey Paige, big fan here, just found your blog!

Know how glad I, and many others, are that you’re not “typical”? I know it has its disadvantages and difficulties; I watched my son, who is very atypical, go through lots of rejection and coldness from the “typical” ones, in high school. But wow, I have been so blessed by your music … just wanted you to know that. If you’d tried hard to be typical, so many would not have been blessed by your music. Each person is a beautiful expression of a part of God’s heart, but only if they live as themselves — who they are, even if that is not very typical. You are a TREASURE, sister.

A few years older, and an old hag?!? My jaw drops on that one, I am speechless.

Well, I pray for you much learning, enjoying, and growing, by God’s hand, as you conquer your “college bucket list”, and wisdom and God’s leading in what “makes the list”. And I’ll pray that God walks you through the “bucket list” He has in mind for you. I’m sure it’s pretty cool, but maybe not “typical”.
